Taking over the Shawnee State baseball program at just 23 years old, former SSU catcher Pat Rigsby posted a winning season in each of his six years as head coach, winning over 65% of his games.

Rigsby led SSU to a 15-13 record in 1996, then improved to 27-16 in 1997 — the best season in program history at that point. Over his final four seasons (1998-2001), he guided the Bears to records of 35-11-1, 37-15, 48-16, and 32-15.

SSU earned top-three conference finishes from 1998-2000, won 14+ conference games from 1999-2001, and made three straight NAIA Regionals. The 2000 team, still the program’s best, won the AMC Championship, reached the NAIA World Series, and finished fifth nationally.

Rigsby closed his career with a 194-86-1 record and a .691 winning percentage, ranking second in program history behind Ted Tom, his former player and later head coach.
