Box Score UPLAND, Ind. -- Shawnee State (33-19, 16-11) fell 6-1 to top-seeded Taylor Monday evening, and will now face elimination on Tuesday.
The Bears will now face the winner of
Mount Mercy and Abraham Baldwin at Winterholter Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Taylor jumped ahead 1-0 with a solo home run in the bottom of the first.
A two-run homer in the second extended the Trojans' lead to 3-0.
Taylor added another two-run homer in the fourth, extending its lead to 5-0.
A solo home run in the eighth pushed Taylor's lead to 6-0.
Zach Gaspar hit an RBI single to right field in the eighth, cutting the Trojans' advantage to 6-1.
The Bears were held scoreless in the ninth as Taylor secured its 50th win of the season.
Owen Elsey took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk over 3 2/3 innings while striking out one.
All six of Taylor's runs were scored via home run.
Diego Mendoza and
Mason Reid both went 2-for-4.
Eli Jones,
Jack Amis,
Byson Arthur,
Nolan Austin and
Zach Gaspar all finished 1-for-4, with Gaspar recording an RBI.
All nine of Shawnee State's hits were singles.
