Box Score CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- Shawnee State's (31-16, 16-11) dominant starting pitching continued Friday evening as
Owen Elsey's complete-game effort propelled the Bears to a 9-1 win over Oakland City.
Shawnee State will now face IU Southeast at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Oakland City scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, before Shawnee State scored twice in the third as
Nolan Austin and
Eli Jones scored on separate wild pitches.
The Bears scored six in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI single by
Larry Drake, a two-RBI single by
Eli Jones, a two-RBI double by
Diego Mendoza and a sacrifice fly from
Zach Gaspar.
Byson Arthur recorded an RBI double in the sixth, extending Shawnee State's lead to 9-1.
After allowing a sacrifice fly in the first inning,
Owen Elsey surrendered zero runs on six hits and a walk over the final eight innings while striking out two.
Elsey's complete-game win is the first for any Shawnee State pitcher this season, and just the second time a starting pitcher has entered the eighth inning.
Eli Jones led all batters with three hits, while also driving in two runs.
Byson Arthur went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, while
Diego Mendoza finished 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Jace Parnin and
Larry Drake both batted 1-for-4, with Drake recording an RBI.
