Box Score NUTTER FORT, W. Va. -- Shawnee State (24-14, 12-9) earned its first NCAA Division II win of the season Tuesday, beating Salem 21-4.
Jack Amis opened the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. Amis has hit a home run in three consecutive games.
The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 1-1.
Shawnee State scored four runs in the third as
Jace Parnin hit a three-RBI double and
Zach Gaspar hit an RBI single.
The Bears extended their lead to 12-1 in the fourth, highlighted by
Jack Amis scoring on an error,
Jace Parnin hitting an RBI single,
Byson Arthur driving in two runs on a double and
Larry Drake hitting a grand slam.
Diego Mendoza hit a two-run homer in the fifth, pushing the Bears' lead to 14-1.
Jack Amis drew an RBI walk and
Diego Mendoza hit a grand slam in the eighth to extend the lead to 19-1.
Amis and
Larry Drake added RBI singles in the ninth to make it 21-1 before Salem scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the Bears lead to 21-4.
Trent Tice struck out the final two batters, securing the 21-4 nonconference win for Shawnee State.
Ethan Campbell earned the win, allowing no runs on one hit over one inning while striking out two.
Diego Mendoza went 4-for-6 with two home runs and six RBI, while
Nolan Austin finished 3-for-5.
Jack Amis batted 2-for-6 with a home run and three RBI.
Jace Parnin and
Zach Gaspar both went 2-for-4 with a double. Parnin recorded four RBI and Gaspar drove in one.
Larry Drake finished 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBI, while
Eli Jones,
Byson Arthur and
Mason Reid recorded one hit apiece. Arthur hit an RBI double in the fourth.
