Box Score 3 OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- Shawnee State (23-14, 12-9) took one of three games against Oakland City over the weekend. The Bears are tied for fourth place in the River States Conference with Brescia and IU Kokomo.
GAME 1
Shawnee State scored four runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Mendoza and a three-run homer by
Jace Parnin.
The Mighty Oaks scored five in the bottom of the inning, before
Diego Mendoza slugged a two-run homer in the top of the second to put the Bears ahead 6-5.
Byson Arthur scored on a defensive error and
Nolan Austin recorded an RBI groundout in the third, extending Shawnee State's lead to 8-5.
Oakland City scored twice in the bottom of the inning, cutting the Bears' lead to 8-7.
Shawnee State extended its lead to 10-7 in the sixth as
Owen Elsey drew an RBI walk and
Jace Parnin hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
Eli Jones hit an RBI single in the seventh, extending the Bears' lead to 11-7.
Jace Parnin hit a two-RBI single and
Byson Arthur hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth to give Shawnee State a 14-7 lead.
Oakland City scored once in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn't enough as the Bears held on for the 14-8 win.
Ricardo Medrano earned the win, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and three walks over seven innings while striking out seven.
Diego Mendoza went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while
Owen Elsey went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Jack Amis batted 3-for-6 and
Jace Parnin went 3-for-4 with a home run and six RBI.
Eli Jones went 3-for-5 with an RBI and
Larry Drake finished 2-for-5.
Byson Arthur and
Nolan Austin each recorded a hit and an RBI.
GAME 2
Oakland City started the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Zach Gaspar hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the second to cut the Mighty Oaks' lead to 4-1.
Jake Winzenread homered in the bottom of the inning to put Oakland City ahead 5-1.
Jace Parnin and
Byson Arthur recorded RBI singles in the seventh, cutting Oakland City's lead to 5-3.
Jack Amis hit a solo home run in the ninth, however, it was the final run Shawnee State scored as the Bears fell to Oakland City 5-4.
Kyle Mokas took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk over 2/3 of an inning.
Jace Parnin went 4-for-5 with an RBI, while
Eli Jones and
Diego Mendoza each finished 2-for-4.
Byson Arthur batted 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Jack Amis and
Larry Drake each went 1-for-5. Amis hit a solo home run in the ninth.
Zach Gaspar finished 0-for-3, but drove in a run.
GAME 3
Jack Amis hit his second home run of the series in the top of the first inning to put the Bears ahead 1-0.
The Mighty Oaks answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 1-1.
Eli Jones hit an RBI single in the third to give Shawnee State a 2-1 lead.
Oakland City scored a run in the seventh, tying the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the ninth, Oakland City's Dicky Gonzalez hit a walk-off solo home run to secure the 3-2 win over Shawnee State.
Trevor Ollier took the loss, allowing one run on two hits over 2 2/3 innings while striking out five.
Jack Amis went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the first.
Eli Jones and
Zach Gaspar each finished 1-for-4, with Jones recording an RBI.
Nolan Austin went 1-for-1.
