Shawnee State Sweeps Three-Game Series with West Virginia Tech, Outscores Golden Bears 38-6

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (20-9, 11-4) outscored West Virginia Tech 38-6 to complete a three-game sweep of the Golden Bears.

GAME 1

Shawnee State jumped out to a 2-0 lead through the first three innings of Friday's series opener, as Eli Jones had an RBI single in the second and Jace Parnin added an RBI double in the third.

The Golden Bears briefly tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning before Shawnee State plated 10 runs in the bottom half to take a 12-2 lead.

The Bears' 10-run fifth was highlighted by a three-RBI double from Jace Parnin, a two-RBI double by Owen Elsey, who later scored on a wild pitch alongside Wyatt Haupt, a sacrifice fly from Diego Mendoza, an RBI walk by Larry Drake and Byson Arthur scoring on another wild pitch.

Byson Arthur hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to extend Shawnee State's lead to 16-2.

Zane Hendrickx did not allow a hit in two innings of relief as the Bears secured the series opener against West Virginia Tech.

Ricardo Medrano earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits and thee walks over five innings while striking out six.

Byson Arthur finished 2-for-5 with a grand slam in the sixth, while Jace Parnin went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI.

Diego Mendoza, Larry Drake and Owen Elsey each batted 2-for-3. Drake and Mendoza each recorded an RBI and Elsey drove in two.

Eli Jones went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Wyatt Haupt finished 1-for-2.

GAME 2

Shawnee State opened the scoring in Game 2 with five runs in the second inning, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Wyatt Haupt, Larry Drake scoring on a passed ball, Diego Mendoza driving in two on a single to left and Byson Arthur hitting an RBI single.

The Bears added a run in the third and fourth innings on sacrifice flies by Wyatt Haupt and Jack Amis.

West Virginia Tech scored its lone run in the sixth, cutting Shawnee State's lead to 7-1.

The Bears responded with a pair of three-run home runs in the sixth and seventh innings by Byson Arthur and Diego Mendoza.

Mendoza's homer in the seventh triggered the 10-run rule, ending the game after seven innings at 13-1.

Kyle Mokas earned the win, allowing no runs on two hits and two walks over 4 2/3 innings while striking out five.

Diego Mendoza went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI, while Byson Arthur batted 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.

Nolan Austin went 2-for-3 with a triple, while Jack Amis and Zach Gaspar each finished 1-for-3. Amis drove in a run in the fourth.

Eli Jones batted 1-for-2 and Jace Parnin went 1-for-1 with three walks.

GAME 3

West Virginia Tech scored the first run of Saturday's series finale in the first inning, but Jace Parnin answered with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half to tie the game at 1-1.

The Bears scored twice in the second inning on an RBI triple by Nolan Austin and a sacrifice fly from Diego Mendoza.

Shawnee State scored three runs in the third, highlighted by RBI singles from Mason Reid and Owen Elsey and an RBI fielder's choice from Jack Amis.

The Golden Bears tallied two runs in the fourth, but Shawnee State answered with two in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by Larry Drake and Nolan Austin to take an 8-3 lead.

Eli Jones recorded an RBI single in the sixth to extend the Bears' lead to 9-3.

Trevor Ollier and Evan Hood combined for a scoreless seventh inning to complete the series sweep of West Virginia Tech.

Carson Wireman earned the win, allowing one earned run on six hits and a walk over five innings while striking out four.

Larry Drake went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Mason Reid finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Nolan Austin batted 2-for-2 with two RBI and Jack Amis finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Jace Parnin and Eli Jones each went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Owen Elsey batted 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Diego Mendoza finished 0-for-3, but recorded an RBI in the second.
