RALEIGH, N.C. -- Isaiah Lanoy set a new Shawnee State men's outdoor track and field record Thursday at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 9:00.72 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Lanoy's performance broke a nine-year record at Shawnee State, previously held by Adrian Ross at 9:08.39. It also ranks as the 12th-fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase in NAIA history.

"Isaiah ran one of, if not the most impressive races in SSU history that wasn't a national championship," said Conner Flynn, Shawnee State's director of cross country and track and field. "In my opinion, it was the top record we had at SSU."

Lanoy's performance also met the NAIA A Standard time, automatically qualifying him for national competition this postseason.

The junior hit the NAIA B Standard in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last week, running 9:17.16 at the Charlotte 49er Classic.

Lanoy is nationally ranked No. 1 in the NAIA 3,000-meter steeplechase and is the reigning River States Conference men's outdoor track Athlete of the Week.
