Box Score GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Following a weekend series loss to IU Southeast, Shawnee State (17-9, 8-4) bounced back Tuesday with a 6-3 win at Georgetown.
Diego Mendoza got things started for Shawnee State with a solo home run in the first inning, his fourth of the season, to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
Nolan Austin doubled down the right-field line in the second inning, driving in two runs to extend Shawnee State's lead to 3-0.
The Tigers scored their first run in the fourth inning, however,
Jack Amis homered in the fifth to push the Bears' lead back to three runs at 4-1.
Georgetown scored twice in the sixth inning to cut the Bears' lead to 4-3, and that's how the score remained until the ninth.
In the top of the ninth,
Zach Gaspar hit a two-RBI single to right field to extend Shawnee State's lead to 6-3.
Trevor Ollier held the Tigers scoreless in the bottom of the inning to secure the Bears' 17th win of the season.
Robert Martin earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over 2 1/3 innings while striking out three.
Ollier earned his second save of the season, tossing three scoreless innings while striking out four.
Diego Mendoza batted 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the first.
Jace Parnin finished 2-for-2 with a pair of sacrifice bunts.
Byson Arthur and
Nolan Austin each went 1-for-3, with Austin recording a two-RBI double in the second.
Zach Gaspar went 1-for-2 with two RBI, and
Jack Amis batted 1-for-5 with an RBI
Mason Reid went 1-for-2 and
Owen Elsey finished 1-for-4.
The Bears are now 10-26 all-time against Georgetown and have won the last three meetings.
