Box Score 3 NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Shawnee State (16-9, 8-4) dropped its second straight River States Conference series over the weekend, losing two of three to IU Southeast.
GAME 1
Jace Parnin ripped a two-run homer in the second inning to give the Bears an early 2-0 lead over IU Southeast.
The Grenadiers responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the third.
IU Southeast scored three in the third inning and two in the fourth to lead the Bears 7-2 after four.
Shawnee State scored five runs in the fifth, highlighted by a solo home run from Nolan Austin, a two-RBI double by Diego Mendoza, an RBI single from Byson Arthur and an RBI double by Wyatt Haupt.
The Grenadiers scored twice in the sixth to lead Shawnee State 9-7 going into the seventh.
Jace Parnin tied the game at 9-9 in the seventh with his second two-run homer of the day.
In the eighth, Mason Reid hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Byson Arthur hit an RBI double to give the Bears an 11-9 lead over the Grenadiers.
Jace Parnin held IU Southeast scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings to secure the Bears' series-opening win.
Parnin earned the win, allowing no runs on one hit and a walk over three innings while striking out four.
Jack Amis and Byson Arthur each recorded three hits, with Arthur driving in two runs.
Nolan Austin and Wyatt Haupt each went 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Jace Parnin batted 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI.
Diego Mendoza and Eli Jones each recorded one hit, with Mendoza slugging a two-RBI double in the fifth.
GAME 2
The Grenadiers scored first in Game 2, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
Shawnee State took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth, as Elijah Burress scored on a wild pitch and Diego Mendoza recorded an RBI single to left field.
In the bottom of the inning, IU Southeast scored 11 runs -- the most allowed in a single inning by Shawnee State all season -- to retake the lead 12-2.
The Bears began to chip away with three runs in the seventh, highlighted by an RBI single by Jace Parnin and a two-RBI double by Mason Reid.
The Grenadiers added a run in the bottom of the inning and held the Bears scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings, tying the series at 1-1 with a 13-5 win.
Wyatt Haupt took the loss for Shawnee State, allowing four earned runs on four hits and two walks over 1 1/3 innings while striking out one.
Jack Amis batted 2-for-5, while Larry Drake and Diego Mendoza each went 2-for-4 with Mendoza recording an RBI.
Owen Elsey finished 1-for-1, while Nolan Austin and Eli Jones each batted 1-for-3.
Mason Reid went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Jace Parnin batted 1-for-5 with an RBI.
GAME 3
Both teams remained scoreless through the first three innings of Game 3, before IU Southeast scored five runs over the fourth and fifth innings.
Mason Reid singled in the seventh to score Kyle Mokas and cut the Grenadiers lead to 5-1.
Shawnee State would be held scoreless over the final two innings as IU Southeast secured the series with a 5-1 win over the Bears.
Owen Elsey took the loss for Shawnee State, allowing one run on three hits over 3 1/3 innings while striking out four.
Jack Amis finished 2-for-3, while Eli Jones, Jace Parnin and Nolan Austin each batted 1-for-3.
Mason Reid went 1-for-1 with an RBI single in the seventh.
