Box Score CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- In a preview of a future Mountain East Conference matchup, Shawnee State (14-5, 6-0) dropped a 10-6 decision to Charleston Tuesday afternoon.
Reigning River States Conference Player of the Week,
Jack Amis, started the scoring in the top of the first inning with a solo home run, his second of the season.
The Golden Eagles answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 1-1, but Amis and
Byson Arthur scored on defensive errors in the top of the third to give Shawnee State a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Charleston added two more runs to tie the game at 3-3.
The Bears quickly responded in the fourth as
Larry Drake singled to score
Mason Reid, and
Jack Amis ripped a two-RBI triple to left-center field to give Shawnee State a 6-3 advantage.
Charleston then scored seven unanswered runs from the fourth inning to the eighth, leading the Bears 10-6 going into the ninth.
Despite a two-out single from
Jace Parnin, Shawnee State was unable to score in the inning and fell 10-6 to Charleston.
Robert Martin took the loss for the Bears, allowing two earned runs on four hits over 3 1/3 innings while striking out two and walking three.
Larry Drake led all batters with three hits in four at-bats -- his second consecutive three hit game -- with a triple and an RBI.
Jack Amis went 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI. Amis has six RBI in his last two games.
Jace Parnin went 2-for-4, while
Nolan Austin,
Mason Reid and
Zach Gaspar each went 1-for-4. Gaspar added a double.
Byson Arthur batted 1-for-5 and
Owen Elsey finished 1-for-2.
