Box Score 3 COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Shawnee State (14-4, 6-0) has now won eight of its last nine games following a three-game sweep of IU Columbus.
GAME ONE (Sunday)
Jack Amis started the scoring on Sunday, driving in the series' first run with an RBI single in the top of the first inning.
Jace Parnin scored the following inning on a passed ball to give the Bears a 2-0 lead in the second.
The Crimson Pride answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, but Shawnee State responded with runs in the fourth and fifth innings on an RBI double by
Zach Gaspar, an RBI triple by
Byson Arthur and an RBI single by
Jace Parnin to give the Bears a 5-1 lead.
IU Columbus plated four runs in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5.
Mason Reid singled in the seventh, scoring
Byson Arthur and
Elijah Burress to give Shawnee State a 7-5 advantage.
The Bears added on to their lead in the eighth as
Diego Mendoza hit a two-RBI single, extending the lead to 9-5.
Brody White held the Crimson Pride scoreless over the final two innings to secure the Bears fourth conference win of the season.
White earned the win, allowing no runs on two hits over the final three innings while striking out two.
Larry Drake and
Diego Mendoza each went 2-for-4, with Drake slugging a double and Mendoza driving in two runs.
Byson Arthur and
Mason Reid both batted 2-for-5, with Byson adding an RBI triple and Reid driving in two runs.
Jace Parnin went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Owen Elsey,
Jack Amis and
Zach Gaspar had one hit apiece, with Amis and Gaspar recording an RBI.
GAME TWO (Sunday)
IU Columbus struck first in the second game of the series, as Trey VanMeter hit a solo home run in the first to give the Crimson Pride a 1-0 advantage.
Kaden Pew scored on a passed ball in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1 before the Bears plated three runs in the third, highlighted by an RBI double by
Diego Mendoza, an RBI triple by
Byson Arthur and a sacrifice fly from
Kyle Gillispie.
The Crimson Pride scored twice in the fifth, but still trailed Shawnee State 4-3.
The Bears extended their lead to 10-3 in the sixth inning, as both
Diego Mendoza and
Nolan Austin hit two-run home runs,
Byson Arthur stole home and
Kyle Gillispie recorded an RBI single.
IU Columbus scored two runs in the sixth but was held scoreless in the seventh as Shawnee State earned the 10-5 win.
Owen Elsey was credited with the win, allowing three runs on four hits over five innings while striking out two.
Jack Amis and
Diego Mendoza each went 2-for-3, with Amis adding a triple and Mendoza a double with three RBI.
Byson Arthur batted 2-for-5 with an RBI triple, with
Larry Drake and
Jace Parnin each recording a single.
Nolan Austin and
Kyle Gillispie had one hit with two RBI, with Austin's coming on a two-run homer in the sixth.
GAME THREE (Monday)
The third game of the series was scoreless until the fifth inning, when Shawnee State erupted for three runs as
Mason Reid hit a solo home run,
Jack Amis laced an RBI single and
Larry Drake scored on a defensive error.
IU Columbus a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to lead the Bears 4-3 going into the seventh.
Larry Drake homered in the eighth to tie the game at 4-4, before IU Columbus retook the lead 6-4 with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
The first three Shawnee State batters drew walks in the top of the ninth, bringing
Larry Drake to the plate with the bases loaded, no outs and the Bears trailing 6-4.
Drake would ground into a double play, but drove in
Kyle Mokas and advanced
Elijah Burress to third to cut the Crimson Pride's lead to 6-5.
The following batter,
Jack Amis, doubled with two outs and the tying run on third to score Burress and tie the game at 6-6.
The Bears did not score again in the inning and held IU Columbus scoreless in the ninth to send the game into extra innings.
In the top of the tenth, following singles from
Mason Reid and
Eli Jones,
Larry Drake ripped a two-RBI double into the outfield to give the Bears an 8-6 lead.
Jace Parnin retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to secure the Bears' series sweep of IU Columbus.
Parnin earned the win, allowing no runs on two hits over two innings while striking out two.
Larry Drake went 3-for-6 with three RBI, including a solo home run in the eighth and the game-winning two-RBI double in the tenth
Jack Amis finished 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI, while
Diego Mendoza went 2-for-4 with a double.
Mason Reid hit his second home run of the season, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Byson Arthur,
Nolan Austin and
Eli Jones each went 1-for-4, while
Jace Parnin batted 1-for-5 with a double.
