Box Score 3 RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- With a three-game sweep of Rio Grande over the weekend, Shawnee State (11-3, 3-0) extended its winning streak to five games.
GAME ONE (Friday)
Byson Arthur opened the scoring for Shawnee State with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.
The Bears added three more runs in the second, capitalizing on a Rio Grande defensive miscue before Arthur delivered a two-run single to left-center.
Shawnee State extended its lead to 7-1 over Rio Grande in the third as
Eli Jones singled to left field, driving in two.
The RedStorm tallied their first run of the afternoon in the fourth as Josiah Devapalan homered.
Wyatt Haupt pushed Shawnee State's lead to 10-1 with a three-run home run in the fifth inning, and
Byson Arthur and
Jack Amis followed with RBI singles in the sixth to extend the advantage to 12-1.
Rio Grande scored five runs across the sixth and seventh innings, but Shawnee State held on for a 12-6 win over the RedStorm.
Ricardo Medrano earned his fourth win of the season, allowing one run on four hits while striking out five batters over five innings.
Byson Arthur went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI, while
Jack Amis finished 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Jace Parnin batted 2-of-4, while
Larry Drake,
Diego Mendoza and
Mason Reid finished with one hit apiece.
Wyatt Haupt went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, and
Eli Jones finished 1-for-4 with two RBI.
GAME TWO (Saturday)
Jace Parnin singled up the middle to score
Jack Amis in the second innining to put Shawnee State ahead 1-0.
The Bears added two more runs in the inning on an RBI single by
Eli Jones and a sacrifice fly from
Larry Drake.
Shawnee State scored seven runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by an RBI single from
Diego Mendoza, an RBI ground out by
Byson Arthur, a two-run single from
Jack Amis, a two-run home run by
Jace Parnin and an RBI single by
Eli Jones.
Byson Arthur scored on a
Jack Amis sacrifice fly in the fifth and
Mason Reid drew an RBI walk in the seventh to extend Shawnee State's lead to 12-0.
Wyatt Haupt and
Ethan Campbell combined to throw seven innings of three-hit shutout baseball as the Bears held the RedStorm scoreless and secure the Bears' 10th win of the season.
Haupt earned the win, allowing two hits and no runs over five innings while striking out three.
Eli Jones finished 3-of-3 with two RBI, while
Jack Amis and
Jace Parnin each went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Amis added a triple while Parnin homered in the fourth.
Byson Arthur,
Larry Drake and
Diego Mendoza each went 1-for-4 with an RBI, while
Zach Gaspar and
Nolan Austin each finished 1-for-4. Austin added a double.
Mason Reid batted 1-for-3 with an RBI, while
Owen Elsey went 1-for-1.
GAME THREE (Saturday)
Byson Arthur continued his dominant weekend with an RBI single in the first inning and an RBI fielder's choice in the third to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
Jack Amis hit a two-run home run in the third to extend Shawnee State's lead to 4-0.
Rio Grande scored in the bottom of the seventh, but the Bears held on for a 4-1 win to complete the three-game sweep of the RedStorm.
Owen Elsey was dominant on the mound for Shawnee State, allowing one hit over five scoreless innings while striking out three. The junior from Howell, Michigan, faced the minimum 15 batters and threw just 50 pitches.
Larry Drake finished 2-for-4 with a double, while
Byson Arthur and
Jack Amis each went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Amis added his first home run of the season.
Diego Mendoza and
Jace Parnin each batted 1-for-3.
