Box Score 2 MILLINGTON, Tenn. -- Shawnee State (8-3, 0-0) closed its four-game weekend at the USA Baseball Complex with a pair of wins over Culver-Stockton and Mission.
GAME ONE (Culver-Stockton)
Shawnee State fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning against the Wildcats on an RBI single by Cooper Gillette that scored Jeremiah Morris.
The run was unearned, however, as Morris reached on an error to lead off the inning.
The Bears rallied in the fourth, plating three runs on an RBI walk by
Nolan Austin and a two-RBI single by
Larry Drake to take a 3-1 lead over Culver-Stockton.
Shawnee State extended its lead in the fifth as
Zach Gaspar doubled to left, scoring
Jack Amis to give the Bears a 4-1 advantage.
Carson Wireman pitched the sixth and seventh innings for Shawnee State, retiring all six batters he faced, including striking out the final four, to lock down the Bears' win and earn his second save of the season.
Ricardo Medrano improved to 3-0 on the season, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing five hits and striking out seven.
Byson Arthur went 2-for-3 with a double, while
Jace Parnin batted 2-for-4.
Larry Drake finished 1-for-3 with two RBI, and
Zach Gaspar went 1-for-1 with an RBI double and a walk.
GAME TWO (Mission)
Shawnee State broke the game open in its second game of the day, scoring six runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Nolan Austin began the barrage with a two-RBI single that scored
Jack Amis and
Jace Parnin, before
Eli Jones singled to score
Mason Reid.
The rally continued for the Bears with a three-run home run by
Zach Gaspar, giving Shawnee State its largest lead of the weekend at 6-0 over Mission.
The Bears added insurance runs in the third and fourth innings on an RBI single by
Jack Amis and an RBI ground out by
Byson Arthur.
The Patriots were held scoreless until the seventh inning, when they scored three runs, however, their rally wasn't enough as they fell to Shawnee State, 8-3.
Wyatt Haupt picked up the win, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out five.
Jace Parnin finished with a game-high three hits, including two doubles.
Zach Gaspar went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while
Nolan Austin finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Eli Jones went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while
Larry Drake,
Jack Amis and
Mason Reid each had one hit, with Amis adding an RBI.
Byson Arthur didn't record a hit, but did drive in his ninth RBI of the season.
