OXFORD, Ohio -- The River States Conference has named Diego Mendoza its Player of the Week.

Mendoza's selection follows a weekend in which the fifth-year catcher went 6-for-13 with two doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs in three games against Toccoa Falls.

This marks the first conference player of the week honor of Mendoza's five-year career at Shawnee State.

Mendoza pointed to a teammate as his source of motivation over the weekend.

"I drew inspiration from my teammate, Jace Parnin," Mendoza said.

Parnin was earned River States Conference and NAIA National Player of the Week honors last season.

Mendoza joins Bryson Arthur as the only two Shawnee State baseball players to earn the weekly honor this season, after Arthur was named River States Conference Player of the Week last week.

Shawnee State returns to action Friday, Feb. 20, when it travels to the USA Stadium Complex in Millington, Tennesse to face Tennessee Wesleyan at 1 p.m. and Freed Hardeman at 4 p.m.
