SSU Baseball Announces Ty Carter as Pitching Coach

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State will have a new face in the dugout at Branch Rickey Park this spring, as Ty Carter has been named the Bears' pitching coach.

Carter, a graduate of Johnson University in Knoxville, Tennessee, has spent the past two seasons on the Royals' staff. He contributed as a student assistant in 2023-24, before transitioning into a graduate assistant role last season.

As a player, Carter began his career at Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tennessee, before transferring to Johnson, where he played for two seasons.

"Ty has high standards and a tough, gritty personality that will drive our pitching staff to perform at a high level," Shawnee State baseball head coach Rob Ehlers said.

Ehlers expressed confidence in Carter's ability to make an immediate impact.

"Carter fits right in with our no-nonsense attitude of playing mistake free baseball in every facet of the game," Ehlers said. "I'm excited for him to hit the ground running and see where he can take this exceptional group of pitchers."

Shawnee State's season begins Friday, Feb. 6, in West Point, Ga. against Point University.
