Brammer finishes above seed line with 18th-place effort in 5,000 meter racewalk

MARION, Ind. -- Shawnee State junior distance competitor and Wheelersburg native Natalie Brammer got her moment in the outdoor spotlight Thursday afternoon, with Brammer taking full advantage of the opportunity by posting a time of 32:33.48 to move up two spots from her seed and place 18th overall in the 5,000 meter racewalk, which was held at the Indiana Wesleyan University Track and Field Complex in Marion, Ind.

Brammer, who claimed the 20th and final position in the field by virtue of her outdoor season-opening time at the Cumberlands (Ky.) Early Spring Invite, finished fourth among the six River States Conference competitors entered in the event.

Thursday's performance marked the third national qualification and second official finishing time for Brammer in a NAIA National Championship event in the race walk. Brammer finished 16th in the 3,000 meter racewalk at the 2025 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships -- and now has NAIA National Championship finishes inside the national top-20 in a racewalk event.

"Natalie had a good performance," Shawnee State Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Conner Flynn said. "She came in and placed above her seed placement in her first ever outdoor national championships. I'm looking forward to seeing her development and returning to this stage next year."

Overall, the Shawnee State women's track and field program had two NAIA National Qualifiers in both indoor and outdoor track and field in Brammer and Olivia Cisco -- with the duo obtaining top-20 finishes in each of their four events at the NAIA Women's Indoor Track and Field National Championships and Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. In addition to Brammer's finishes listed above, Cisco finished 10th at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in the 5,000 meter run and 14th at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the 10,000 meter run.
