Wamsley posts top-five finish in high jump, Bailey nabs top-10 showing in hammer at Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet

BEREA, Ohio -- Two of Shawnee State's best women's track and field athletes enjoyed top-10 outings at the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet Friday afternoon against some of Ohio's best competition statewide -- as Shawnee State jumper Haidyn Wamsley cleared five feet, two-and-a-half inches in the high jump to finish in a tie for fifth place while Shawnee State thrower Jaina Bailey notched a 156-foot, two-inch hammer throw to place 10th to round out the women's track and field program's efforts at the meet, which was held at George Finnie Stadium and the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Friday evening.

Wamsley, who tied with Michaela Bryan of John Carroll (Ohio) for fifth place on the 20-competitor leaderboard, beat out 14 competitors from 10 different schools and four different states (Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania) in the high jump.

Bailey, who placed 10th out of 24 talents in the hammer throw, posted what amounted to a 47.62-meter toss in the event. Bailey beat out 13 throwers from eight different schools and three different states (Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania) and posted her second consecutive meet with a throw above 47.5 meters in the hammer in the process.

The women's track and field program will now await the unveiling of the official NAIA Women's Track and Field National Championship field, which will drop next week. Olivia Cisco has already sealed her berth for a second consecutive season in the 10,000 meter run, and will race on Thursday, May 21 at 8:20 p.m. at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.
