LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The standout duo of
Isaiah Lanoy and
Trevor Lanoy continued to show why the duo are among the most respected and feared runners across not only the River States Conference realm, but the NAIA specter as well as the duo were again stout at the Swags Louisville XC Classic Saturday morning in Louisville, Ky. -- finishing fourth and 10th, respectively, in a field of 436 runners in the Swags Louisville XC Classic's Men's 8K Blue Race and leading Shawnee State to a seventh place finish out of 41 teams in the event.
Isaiah Lanoy, who was one of just five runners in the entire race to run a time under 25 minutes, nabbed a 24:58.4 to finish fourth while
Trevor Lanoy posted a 25:20.4 to sit 10th in the field.
Lanoy was not only the fourth-fastest runner in the Men's 8K Blue Race -- but was faster than each of the Mountain East Conference runners that took part in the Men's 8K Blue Race and faster than all but two who took part in the Men's 8K Gold Race.
Trevor Lanoy, meanwhile, was the fifth-fastest River States Conference runner in each of the collegiate races that took place on Saturday -- but was also faster than each of the Mountain East Conference runners that took part in the Men's 8K Blue Race and faster than all but two who took part in the Men's 8K Gold Race. The only two Mountain East Conference runners that ran faster than both Lanoys did were from Davis and Elkins, as Jordan Thomas (24:14.9) and Christopher Lucas (24:52.9) were the lone duo that fared better in terms of Shawnee State's future conference prospects.
"Isaiah and Trevor are doing a great job this season of setting the example on the course," Shawnee State Director of Cross Country and Track and Field
Conner Flynn said. "I was happy with their performances."
Behind the main trio,
Kaiden Lanoy (58th),
Jerry O'Dell (105th) and
Connor Darnell (124th) finished well inside the top quarter of the field, with the trio running 26:04, 26:27.9 and 26:38.7, respectively. Darnell's time was especially impressive considering that the sophomore ran with just one shoe on after the opening mile of the race as Darnell had it fall off during the early portion of the event.
"There were some bright spots and not so bright spots for the men, however, I am excited about where we are heading," Flynn said. "Kaiden (Lanoy) looks better every week, and
Connor Darnell competing the way he did after losing his shoe in the first mile was encouraging."
Eli Lengl (285th) and
Walker Pannell (301st) rounded out the finishers for Shawnee State in the event.
From a team standpoint, Shawnee State -- in the 8K Blue Race -- finished higher than each River States Conference opponent who competed in that specific event as a team. The Bears also finished higher than each of the three Mountain East Conference schools who recorded scores in that event as well, as West Virginia Wesleyan and Concord finished 13th and 14th, respectively while West Liberty claimed the 18th position in the finishing order.
The men's cross country program at Shawnee State will be back in action three weeks from Saturday's race in what will be the final cross country meet of the regular season -- as the Bears take part in the annual NAIA Great Lakes Challenge, which is being held at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, Mich.
