Shawnee State Collects Two Walk-Off Wins in Sweep of Cedarville Tuesday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- In its highly anticipated home opener, Shawnee State (8-4, 3-1) rallied in the eighth inning twice to sweep NCAA Division II Cedarville.

GAME ONE

Shawnee State scored the first run of the series when Keegan Uhl ripped an RBI double to center field in the second inning to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles answered in the third inning when Anna Gardner hit a three-run home run to lead Shawnee State 3-1.

In the sixth, Emily Moore hit a solo home run -- her second of the season -- to cut Cedarville's lead to 3-2.

Haley Myers led off the seventh inning with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball.

Myers advanced to third on a single by Sierra Dunnagan and scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 3-3, sending it into extra innings.

Cedarville hit a pair of two-run home runs in the top of the eighth inning to lead Shawnee State 7-3 going into the bottom half.

To begin the eighth inning, Emily Moore was placed on second as the courtesy runner, Kennedy Davis walked and Lexie Lockwood singled.

Keegan Uhl then singled, scoring Moore and leaving the bases loaded as Shawnee State trailed 7-4.

Haley Myers then drove in two runs on a single to right center. cutting the Golden Eagles' lead to 7-6.

The following batter, Sierra Dunnagan, was walked to load the bases for Gabby Adams.

Adams hit an infield fly, however, it allowed Uhl to score from third and tie the game at 7-7.

Sydney Skiver then singled to left field, scoring Myers from third to give Shawnee State the 8-7 come-from-behind walk-off win.

Abbie Deeds earned the win for Shawnee State, allowing six earned runs on eight hits over eight innings while striking out eight and walking two.

Haley Myers led all batters with her third three-hit game of the season, while driving in three runs.

Sydney Skiver went 2-for-5 with a walk-off single, while Keegan Uhl finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Kennedy Davis and Lexie Lockwood each went 2-for-3, with Davis legging out her fourth double of the season.

Jenna Christopher, Gabby Adams, Sierra Dunnagan and Emily Moore each recorded one hit, with Moore hitting a solo home run in the sixth inning.

GAME TWO

Cedarville started the scoring in the first inning, plating four runs to take a 4-0 lead over Shawnee State.

Shawnee State responded with five runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Haley Myers and a three-run home run by Sydney Skiver -- her third of the season.

The Golden Eagles scored in the fifth to tie the game at 5-5, a score that would hold as the contest went into extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, Cedarville's Jordan Berry hit a two-run homer to give the Golden Eagles a 7-5 lead over the Bears.

In the bottom of the inning, however, Jenna Christopher and Lexie Lockwood would score on a two-RBI fielders' choice from Sierra Dunnagan to tie the game at 7-7.

This brought the reigning River States Conference Player of the Week, Gabby Adams, to the plate with two on, one out and the game tied.

Adams smoked a 1-2 offering from Cedarville's Emma Wylie over the left-field wall, and off the scoreboard, to give the Bears the win and complete the series sweep.

Gabby McConnell pitched all eight innings for Shawnee State, allowing six earned runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking four.

Jenna Christopher and Sierra Dunnagan both had three hits, with Dunnagan adding two RBI.

Haley Myers went 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Sydney Skiver finished 2-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBI.

Gabby Adams batted 1-for-5 with a walk-off three-run homer, and Lexie Lockwood went 1-for-4.

Shawnee State returns to action Friday, March 13, when it hosts IU Columbus for two games at Doc Singleton Park in West Portsmouth, Ohio, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
