SSU WBOWL finishes sixth; JV bowlers win another team title at OBC Event No. 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The women's bowling program at Shawnee State put six of its bowlers inside the top-50 overall and nine individuals inside the top-75 of a 139-bowler field at the second Ohio Bowling Conference event -- leading to an impressive sixth-place finish out of 14 teams for the Shawnee State varsity women's bowling program and an event-winning showing for the Shawnee State junior varsity women's bowling squad Saturday at the Columbus Bowling Palace in Columbus, Ohio.

Shawnee State's varsity group, who dropped 4,511 pins in individual play as well as Baker contests, bettered in-state programs in Capital, Ohio Northern, Wittenberg, Ursuline, and Mount Vernon Nazarene as well as Thomas More (Ky.), Robert Morris (Pa.) and Bethel (Ind.).

Individually, Shawnee State had two bowlers eclipse a 180 average in the event as Shawnee State sophomore Maria Mara and Shawnee State senior Jackie Aubry were each stout throughout Saturday's event.

Mara, who notched a terrific 187.3 average, bowled a second game 231 and added in a 181 in her first game to ultimately tally a three-game 562, while Aubry, who nabbed a 181 average, bowled a 199 in the first game and a 181 in the third -- collecting a three-game 543. Mara represented the varsity squad's effort while Aubry led the junior varsity group. The duo finished 11th and 13th, respectively.

Shawnee State freshmen Kaylee Randolph and Hannah Chandler, who have performed well all season, followed suit with strong averages of their own. Randolph, who represented Shawnee State's varsity group, finished with a three-game average of 177 after posting a 190 and a 176 in her first two games, while Chandler, who posted a 176 average for the Shawnee State junior varsity squad, started her three game run with a 221. Randolph and Chandler finished 25th and 28th overall.

Morgan Higgins also fared well, posting a 172.7 average with a high game of 200 in the second of the three-game set, finishing in 36th position.

Coryn Darling (48th), McKenna Roades (50th), Bailey Mitchell (54th), Onesti Evans (64th) and Cali Baird (75th) rounded out the efforts for the Shawnee State contingent.

In its junior varsity victory as a group, the Shawnee State women's bowling squad took home the title by edging Mount Vernon Nazarene by 41 pins (4,188 to 4,145).
