SSU BOWL: Women Place First, Men Take Second in Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic

NORTH VERSAILLES TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Shawnee State earned a pair of top-two finishes Saturday at the Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic, with the women's team winning their first event of the season and the men's team placing second. Onesti Evans took first place individually in the women's division.

WOMEN'S

The SSU women's bowling team, which placed first out of 11 teams, has now finished in the top two in back-to-back events.

The Bears were able to hold off the nation's No. 3-ranked team, St. Vincent College, edging out the Bearcats by eight pins (4,927-4,919).

Sophomore Onesti Evans was the women's individual champion with a 198.33 three-game average (223 high), with Maria Mara placing third with a 192.33 average (208 high). Both Evans and Mara earned All-Tournament Team honors.

Kaylee Randolph was also able to finish within the top 10 individually, as the freshman claimed 10th place with a 180.67 average (228 high). Randolph's 228 in game three was the highest individual game score of the event.

MEN'S

The SSU men's bowling team sat in 10th place out of 15 teams after Game 1 Saturday, however, the Bears would rally to a second place finish over the afternoon's final two games -- dropping 5,044 pins total. Erie Community College placed first in the men's event with 5,113 pins.

Jaylen Sumler had the highest individual finish for the Bears, tying for fifth with a 204 three-game average (246 high) and earning All-Tournament honors in the men's division. The junior's 246 score in game two was the second-highest among the event's top-10 finishers.

Andrew Tomko (190.33) and Blake Landers (188.33) were Shawnee State's second- and third-highest individual scorers, finishing 22nd and 23rd, respectively.

The Shawnee State men's and women's bowling teams will be back in action Sunday, Jan. 11, when they return to New Great Valley Lanes in North Versailles Township, Pa. for the Western Pennsylvania Baker Shootout.
