SSU Athletics to see seven sports in action between Friday to Tuesday

The athletic department at Shawnee State will have seven teams in action over the coming week, as the Shawnee State volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, men's tennis and women's golf programs will all compete in events from Friday to Tuesday.

A rundown of all of the events in front of the Bears over the weekend and early portion of next week are below:

Friday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 4 -- Shawnee State Men's and Women's Cross Country at Ohio Wesleyan University Invite; Shawnee State Men's and Women's Cross Country at Live in Lou XC Classic

The men's and women's cross country programs at Shawnee State kick off the action Friday evening as different members of both squads will be competing in two events -- the Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational on Friday in Delaware, Ohio, and the Live in Louisville Cross Country Classic Saturday in Louisville, Ky.

For Shawnee State head coach Conner Flynn, he believes that his runners are prepared due to the work that all 28 runners -- between both teams combined -- have put in over the past two weeks.

"Training has been going really well," Flynn said. "We have several athletes that are turning a corner and hitting their stride at the perfect time. I expect this to show over the weekend."

Flynn expects both teams to compete on tracks with fast paces over the weekend, factoring in both Shawnee State's training as well as weather conditions that continue to be warmer than average as the calendar turns to October.

"Both OWU and Louisville are fast courses and nice layouts," Flynn said. "They are definitely the type of meets that athletes look forward to showing what they have."
