SALEM, W. Va. -- Shawnee State (4-8, 0-1) suffered a five-set loss to Livingstone Saturday afternoon at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
Set 1
Livingstone jumped out to an 8-3 lead to begin the opening set before extending its advantage to 19-7 with an 11-4 run.
Leading 19-10, the Blue Bears scored six of the final eight points to win the set, 25-12.
Set 2
For the second consecutive set, Livingstone controlled the front half of the frame, taking an 11-6 lead.
Shawnee State fought back, however, with a 10-5 run, highlighted by kills from
Natalie Reida,
Camille McIntosh and
Camille Hall, and service aces by
Jalynn West,
Mylee Gleim and
Graci Claxon, to tie the set, 16-16.
Leading 21-20, Shawnee State closed out the set with kills from
Camille McIntosh,
Camille Hall and
Kaylee McInnis to edge Livingstone, 25-23, and tie the match, 1-1.
Set 3
The Bears opened the third frame on an 8-2 run behind back-to-back aces by West, and kills from McIntosh and Hall.
Livingstone cut Shawnee State's lead to 11-8, before the Bears answered with another 8-2 run to lead 19-10.
Behind three kills by McInnis and two by McIntosh, Shawnee State closed the set on a 6-1 run to win, 25-11, and take a 2-1 match lead.
Set 4
Livingstone benefited from a 9-3 run to begin the fourth set before extending its lead to 18-10.
Shawnee State scored three straight points to cut the deficit to 18-13, but the Blue Bears responded with a 6-2 run to take a 24-15 lead.
Despite another 3-0 run by Shawnee State to cut its deficit to 24-18, Livingstone scored the final point to win, 25-18, and force a fifth set.
Set 5
The fifth set began evenly, until Shawnee State gained a slight edge at 9-7.
Livingstone rallied to tie the match, 10-10, and scored four of the next five points to lead 14-11.
Behind two kills by
Bree Hicks and a block from Reida, Shawnee State tied the match, 14-14.
Lvingstone's Hailey Henriquez recorded three kills over the next four points to help the Blue Bears win the set, 17-15, and take the match in five sets.
Bears by the Numbers
Bree Hicks led Shawnee State with 11 kills, while
Camille McIntosh and
Kaylee McInnis added 10 apiece. McIntosh also led the match with four blocks.
Jalynn West posted a match-high 26 assists, while also leading Shawnee State with three service aces.
Mylee Gleim paced the Bears with 15 digs, with
Graci Claxon adding 14.
