Box Score 2 WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (23-9, 16-6) was swept in a two-game series for the first time this season Friday, dropping two games to IU Southeast.
The Bears beat IU Southeast 14-0 and 11-4 on March 6 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, but lost both games at Doc Singleton Park Friday by scores of 5-2 and 10-3.
GAME 1
Shawnee State opened the series' scoring in the second inning when
Lexie Lockwood and
Emily Moore scored on a defensive error to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
The Grenadiers responded with two runs in the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2.
Neither team scored in the sixth or seventh innings, sending the game to extra innings.
IU Southeast scored three runs in the top of the eighth to lead Shawnee State 5-2.
Despite their first two batters reaching base safely, the Bears were held scoreless in the bottom of the inning as IU Southeast secured the 5-2 win.
Abbie Deeds took the loss for Shawnee State, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and two walks over 7 1/3 innings while striking out three.
Emily Moore went 2-for-3 and
Sierra Dunnagan finished 1-for-2 with a triple.
Lexie Lockwood,
Kennedy Davis and
Sydney Skiver all batted 1-for-4, with Skiver hitting a double.
Keegan Uhl went 1-for-3.
GAME 2
The Bears fell behind early and often in Game 2, as IU Southeast scored runs in each of the first four innings.
The Grenadiers plated one in the first, three in the second, and one in the third and fourth innings.
Shawnee State scored twice in the sixth on an RBI double by
Sydney Skiver and a sacrifice fly from
Kennedy Davis.
IU Southeast tacked on four runs in the top of the seventh, extending its lead to 10-2.
Haley Myers recorded an RBI single in the bottom of the inning, however, that would be Shawnee State only run of the inning as the Bears fell to the Grenadiers 10-3.
Gabby McConnell took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk over two innings.
Haley Myers went 2-for-3 with an RBI while
Emily Cheatham finished 2-for-2.
Gabby Adams batted 1-for-4 and
Sydney Skiver went 1-for-2 with an RBI double.
Kennedy Davis went 0-for-1 but drove in a run.

Shawnee State returns to action Friday, April 10, when it travels to Cera Sports Park in Columbus, Indiana for two games against IU Columbus at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
