Box Score 2 WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (23-7, 16-4) completed a two-game sweep of Brescia Thursday evening, including a six-run comeback in Game 2.
GAME 1
Shawnee State executed a double steal in the first inning as
Haley Myers stole second and
Jenna Christopher stole home to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
Later in the inning,
Gabby Adams blasted a two-run homer to extend Shawnee State's lead to 3-0.
The Bears added two more runs in the second inning, highlighted by an RBI double from
Haley Myers and an RBI single by
Gabby Adams.
Brescia scored its first run of the series in the fifth, but still trailed Shawnee State 5-1.
Haley Myers doubled in the fifth inning, driving in three runs to push the Bears' advantage to 8-1.
Later that inning,
Gabby Adams recorded an RBI fielder's choice that triggered the eight-run rule, ending the game in five innings at 9-1.
Abbie Deeds earned the win, allowing one run on two hits and one walk over five innings while striking out seven.
The freshman has allowed two earned runs over her last 28 1/3 innings pitched.
Haley Myers and
Gabby Adams each went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Myers hit two doubles and Adams slugged her sixth home run of the season.
Jenna Christopher batted 2-for-4 with a double, while
Lexie Lockwood and
Keegan Uhl each went 2-for-3.
Sydney Skiver went 1-for-2 and
Kennedy Davis finished 1-for-3.
GAME 2
Brescia jumped out to an early lead over Shawnee State in Game 2, scoring six runs in the second inning to lead 6-0.
The Bears quickly answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by an RBI single from
Keegan Uhl,
Lexie Lockwood scoring on a passed ball,
Haley Myers driving in two runs on a single to right field and
Sierra Dunnagan launching a two-run homer to tie the game at 6-6.
Shawnee State took its first lead of the game in the fourth as
Haley Myers and
Emily Moore each drove in runs on fielder's choices, giving the Bears an 8-6 lead.
Brescia added a run in the sixth, however,
Abbie Deeds retired the seventh-inning side in order to secure the 8-7 win over the Bearcats.
Laci Delauder earned the win, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over 4 2/3 innings while striking out four.
Abbie Deeds recorded her second save of the season in the seventh.
Sierra Dunnagan went 2-for-4 with two RBI and her team-leading seventh home run of the season.
Sydney Skiver batted 2-for-3, while
Jenna Christopher,
Kennedy Davis and
Keegan Uhl finished 1-for-3. Uhl drove in a run in the second.
Haley Myers and
Emily Moore each went 1-for-4, with Myers driving in three runs and Moore one.
Myers recorded a team-high seven RBI in the two-game series against Brescia.
Lexie Lockwood went 1-for-2.
