Box Score 2 WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Amidst a Senior Day celebration, Shawnee State (35-13, 28-8) swept West Virginia Tech in its final series of the regular season.
The Bears will now face the winner of No. 3 Rio Grande and No. 6 IU Columbus in the River States Conference tournament on Friday, May 1, at 12 p.m at Little Creek Park in South Charleston, West Virginia.
GAME 1
West Virginia Tech's Olivia Barnett hit an RBI double to right field to give the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead in the top of the third.
Shawnee State responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by RBI singles from
Sydney Skiver,
Mackensie Bailey and
Lexie Lockwood, and a two-RBI single from
Andi Webb.
Haley Hawes recorded an RBI fielder's choice in the fourth to extend the Bears' lead to 6-1.
West Virginia Tech scored five runs in the sixth to tie the game at 6-6.
In its half of the inning, Shawnee State answered with a five-run inning of its own as
Sydney Skiver drove in two runs on a double to center field,
Lexie Lockwood hit a two-RBI triple,
Andi Webb recorded an RBI single and
Jenna Christopher drove in a run on a triple to right field.
Abbie Deeds held the Golden Bears scoreless in the seventh, as Shawnee State secured the series opener 11-6.
Deeds earned the win, allowing six runs -- five earned -- on 11 hits and one walk over seven innings while striking out six.
Jenna Christopher went 4-for-5 with a double, triple, and an RBI, while
Lexie Lockwood finished 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI.
Gabby Adams and
Andi Webb both batted 2-for-3, with Webb driving in two runs.
Sydney Skiver went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while
Sierra Dunnagan finished 1-for-1.
Haley Hawes and
Mackensie Bailey both batted 1-for-4 with an RBI.
GAME 2
West Virginia Tech scored a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over Shawnee State.
Lexie Lockwood drove in two runs on a single to center field to put the Bears ahead 2-1.
Shawnee State extended its lead in the fourth, as
Haley Myers hit an RBI single and
Kennedy Davis drove in two on a single to left field.
The Golden Bears scored a run in the sixth, and two in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as Shawnee State held on for the 5-4 win to complete the series sweep.
Gabby McConnell earned the win, allowing four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out seven.
Jenna Christopher went 3-for-4, while
Sydney Skiver finished 1-for-1.
Kennedy Davis and
Lexie Lockwood both went 1-for-3 with two RBI, while
Haley Myers finished 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Emily Moore batted 1-for-3.
