Box Score 2 RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- In their final regular-season meeting as league mates, Shawnee State (33-13, 26-8) and Rio Grande split Friday's doubleheader.
The Bears have clinched the No. 2 seed in the River States Conference tournament.
GAME 1
Sydney Skiver opened the scoring for Shawnee State with a three-RBI double in the top of the first, putting the Bears ahead 3-0.
Rio Grande scored a run in the bottom of the inning, however,Â
Sierra Dunnagan laced a two-RBI double down the right-field line to extend Shawnee State's lead to 5-1 in the top of the second.
In the top of the third,
Haley Myers hit a two-RBI single and
Emily Moore scored on a defensive error to push the Bears' lead to 8-1.
The RedStorm scored three in the bottom of the fifth, but still trailed Shawnee State 8-4.
The Bears scored four in the sixth, highlighted by a two-RBI single from
Keegan Uhl and a two-run homer by
Emily Moore.
Rio Grande scored a run in the bottom of the inning to cut Shawnee State's lead to 12-5.
Both teams went scoreless in the seventh, as the Bears secured the series opener.
Abbie Deeds earned her 17th win of the season, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four.
Haley Myers went 4-for-5 with two RBI, while
Emily Moore finished 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.
Jenna Christopher batted 2-for-5, while
Sydney Skiver went 1-for-5 with three RBI.
Sierra Dunnagan and
Keegan Uhl both finished 1-for-4 with two RBI, while
Gabby Adams went 1-for-4 with a double.
Lexie Lockwood went 1-for-2.
GAME 2
Rio Grande accounted for the game's first seven runs, scoring two in the first inning, two in the third and three in the fourth.
Shawnee State scored three in the fifth, as
Jenna Christopher hit a two-RBI triple to right field and
Sierra Dunnagan recorded an RBI single.
The RedStorm responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning, extending their lead to 9-3.
Sydney Skiver hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as Rio Grande held on for the 9-6 win over Shawnee State.
Gabby McConnell took the loss, allowing seven runs -- only one earned -- on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings while striking out two.
Jenna Christopher and
Sierra Dunnagan both batted 2-for-4 with Christopher driving in two runs and Dunnagan one.
Sydney Skiver went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, while
Gabby Adams and
Keegan Uhl both finished 1-for-4.
Kennedy Davis went 1-for-3, while
Emily Moore and
Lexie Lockwood both batted 1-for-2.

Shawnee State returns to action Saturday, April 25, when it hosts West Virginia Tech for two games at Doc Singleton Park in West Portsmouth, Ohio, at 1 p.m. and 3Â p.m.
Senior Day festivities will precede Game 1 of the doubleheader.
