Box Score 2 WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (31-9, 24-6) completed a two-game sweep of Oakland City on Friday, moving within one game of the Mighty Oaks in the River States Conference standings.
Shawnee State and Oakland City each have six conference games remaining.
GAME 1
Oakland City opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first, however, Shawnee State answered in the bottom of the inning as
Gabby Adams launched a three-run homer to put the Bears ahead 3-1.
The Mighty Oaks cut the Bears' lead to 3-2 in the top of the third, but
Sydney Skiver hit an RBI single in the bottom of the frame to push Shawnee State's advantage to 4-2.
The Bears scored seven runs in the fourth, highlighted by
Jenna Christopher's three-RBI triple,
Sierra Dunnagan and
Haley Myers scoring on defensive errors and
Emily Moore hitting an RBI fielder's choice.
Abbie Deeds held the Mighty Oaks scoreless in the top of the fifth, ending the game 11-2 after five.
Deeds earned the win, allowing one earned run on four hits and two walks over five innings.
Jenna Christopher went 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI, while
Haley Myers,
Sierra Dunnagan and
Gabby Adams each finished 2-for-3. Dunnagan hit a double, Myers drove in a run and Adams recorded a triple, home run and three RBI.
Sydney Skiver went 1-for-2 with an RBI and
Lexie Lockwood batted 1-for-3.
Emily Moore finished 0-for-2 with an RBI.
GAME 2
Oakland City's Hannah Wissel hit a two-run homer in the second inning, putting the Mighty Oaks ahead 2-0.
Jenna Christopher hit a sacrifice fly in the third to cut the Mighty Oaks' advantage to 2-1.
Oakland City scored three in the sixth to extend its lead to 5-1.
In the bottom of the inning,
Sydney Skiver hit a sacrifice fly and
Keegan Uhl recorded an RBI single to cut the Bears' deficit to 5-3.
With two outs and two runners on,
Emily Moore slugged a three-run homer to right field to give Shawnee State its first lead of the game at 6-5.
Gabby McConnell retired the seventh-inning side in order to secure the Bears' series sweep of Oakland City.
McConnell earned the win, allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks over five innings while striking out one.
The sophomore has allowed two earned runs in her last 12 innings pitched.
Emily Moore went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, while
Haley Myers and
Gabby Adams each finished 1-for-3 with a double.
Sierra Dunnagan,
Lexie Lockwood and
Keegan Uhl each batted 1-for-3, with Uhl recording an RBI.
Jenna Christopher went 0-for-1 and
Sydney Skiver went 0-for-2, however, both players drove in a run.
