Box Score 2 WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (29-9, 22-6) swept Kentucky Christian Tuesday evening, extending its winning streak to six games.
The Bears are second in the River States Conference, only behind Oakland City (31-11, 25-3) who they host his weekend.
GAME 1
Shawnee State opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by
Gabby Adams hitting a sacrifice fly and
Sydney Skiver driving in two runs on a single to left field.
Lexie Lockwood scored on a passed ball in the second to extend the Bears' lead to 4-0.
Kentucky Christian began to chip away at Shawnee State's lead in the third, scoring twice to make it 4-2.
The Bears answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning as
Sierra Dunnagan hit a solo home run and
Emily Moore recorded an RBI single.
Haley Myers hit an RBI double in the fourth to give the Bears a 7-2 lead.
Kentucky Christian's Sara Bays hit a three-run home run in the sixth to cut Shawnee State's lead to 7-5.
The Bears added two insurance runs in the bottom of the inning as
Sierra Dunnagan recorded an RBI groundout and
Keegan Uhl hit an RBI single.
Abbie Deeds held the Knights scoreless in the top of the seventh to secure the Bears' 9-5 win.
Deeds earned the win, allowing three earned runs on five hits over two innings while striking out 10.
Deeds' 10 strikeouts is her second most in a single game this season, and the second time she's recorded double-digit punchouts.
Jenna Christopher led all batters with three hits, while
Sierra Dunnagan went 2-for-2 with a solo home run.
Haley Myers finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while
Gabby Adams batted 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Keegan Uhl and
Emily Moore each went 1-for-4 with an RBI, and
Lexie Lockwood finished 1-for-3.
GAME 2
Sierra Dunnagan hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning, giving the Bears a 1-0 lead.
Shawnee State scored four runs in the second, highlighted by
Sydney Skiver hitting a solo home run,
Keegan Uhl scoring on a wild pitch and Morgan and
Jenna Christopher recording RBI groundouts.
Gabby McConnell tossed a complete game shutout, the first of her career, to complete the series sweep of Kentucky Christian.
McConnell earned the win, allowing zero runs on five hits over seven innings while striking out one.
Keegan Uhl went 2-for-3 with a double, and
Lexie Lockwood batted 2-for-2.
Jenna Christopher finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, while
Haley Myers went 1-for-3 with a triple.
Gabby Adams and
Sydney Skiver both went 1-for-3, with Skiver hitting a solo home run in the second.
Sierra Dunnagan finished 0-for-2 with an RBI and
Hailee Bay went 1-for-1.
