Box Score 2 WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (19-7, 14-4) split a doubleheader with Rio Grande on Sunday and sits two games back of Oakland City in the River States Conference standings.
GAME 1
Shawnee State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when
Gabby Adams singled to score
Sierra Dunnagan and give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
Rio Grande responded in the top of the second with two runs to briefly take a 2-1 lead.
Shawnee State then scored two in the bottom of the third to retake the lead at 3-2, highlighted by RBI singles from
Gabby Adams and
Sydney Skiver.
The Bears added two more runs in the fifth as
Haley Myers recorded a two-RBI single.
Abbie Deeds held the RedStorm scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings as Shawnee State took the series opener 5-2.
Deeds was credited with the win, allowing two runs, neither earned, on 11 hits over seven innings while striking out two.
The freshman has recorded back-to-back complete-game wins.
Haley Myers and
Sierra Dunnagan each finished 2-for-4, with Myers driving in two runs.
Gabby Adams and
Sydney Skiver each went 2-for-3. Adams recorded two RBI, and Skiver drove in one.
Kennedy Davis and
Keegan Uhl each batted 1-for-3, and
Jenna Christopher finished 1-for-4.
GAME 2
The RedStorm started the scoring in Game 2, as Macy Kise hit an RBI single to give Rio Grande a 1-0 lead in the first.
Rio Grande scored a run in the second to briefly take a 2-0 lead before
Keegan Uhl drove in a run on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the inning to cut the RedStorm's lead to 2-1.
Emily Lane singled in the third to give Rio Grande a 3-1 lead.
The Bears answered in their half of the inning as
Haley Myers recorded an RBI ground out to make it 3-2.
Rio Grande scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings to lead the Bears 5-2 going into the bottom of the fifth.
Sierra Dunnagan singled in the Bears' half of the fifth inning, cutting the RedStorm's lead to 5-3.
Shawnee State would be held scoreless for the remainder of the game, as Rio Grande held on for the 5-3 win.
Laci Delauder took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks over 2 1/3 innings while striking out one.
Jenna Christopher and
Gabby Adams each led the Bears with two hits apiece. Christopher recorded a lead off triple in the bottom of the third.
Emily Moore and
Kennedy Davis each went 1-for-3, while
Sierra Dunnagan batted 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Keegan Uhl went 0-for-2, but drove in a run in the second inning.

Shawnee State returns to action Monday, March 30, when it hosts Ohio Christian for two games at Doc Singleton Park in West Portsmouth, Ohio, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
