Box Score SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Shawnee State (24-9, 12-4) saw its season come to a close on Friday evening, falling to Marian (Ind.), 101-57, in the Sweet 16 of the NAIA National Tournament.
Marian, which finished No. 4 in the final NAIA Women's Basketball Top 25 Poll, had a monstrous start, scoring 34 points in the opening quarter to lead Shawnee State 34-15 entering the second.
Miyoshi Ellis scored each of the Bears first nine points of the game.
Marian saw an offensive dip in the second quarter with only 19 points; however, Shawnee State shot 1-for-12 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line in the frame.
At the half, the Bears trailed the Knights 53-19.
Shawnee State responded with 38 points in the second half, double its first-half output, but surrendered 48 to Marian as the Knights advanced to the Elite 8 with a 101-57 win.
Kyla Torok led the Bears with a season-high 22 points, shooting 10-of-12 from the field and 1-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Miyoshi Ellis scored 13 points, dished out six assists and collected three steals.
Ra'Khyia Prince finished with eight points while
Jariah Steele posted seven.
Emily Maynard scored three points, shooting 1-of-3 from beyond the arc.
Lilly-May Walker and
Laken Williams recorded two points apiece.
Season Review
Shawnee State posted its third consecutive season of 20 wins or more, while also appearing in the NAIA National Tournament for the second year in a row.
The Bears saw
three players earn all-conference honors this season (
Miyoshi Ellis,
Laken Williams,
TK Catchings).
Following wins over
No. 5 William Carey and
No. 4 Evangel, Shawnee State returned to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2019.
