Box Score GRAYSON, Ky. -- Shawnee State (15-4, 6-1) won its fourth straight game Tuesday evening, defeating Kentucky Christian 81-72. The Bears are now 5-0 all time against the Knights.
Kentucky Christian got off to a strong start Tuesday, as the Knights led Shawnee State 21-15 at the end of the first quarter.
Lilly-May Walker led the Bears with six points in the first quarter, while Kentucky Christian's Bell Sparks and Mikyra Caudil led all scorers with seven points apiece.
Shawnee State found its groove in the second quarter, winning the frame 22-18, however, the Bears would still trail the Knights 39-37 at halftime.
Laken Williams led all scorers in the second quarter with seven points, while
Lauren Hawthorne added six points, three rebounds and two steals.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point of Tuesday night's River States Conference showdown, as Shawnee State outpaced Kentucky Christian 26-15 in the period to take a 63-54 lead into the fourth.
Williams and
Kyla Torok posted quarter-high eight point performances in the third quarter, while
Jariah Steele chipped in five points.
Kentucky Christian was unable to gain ground on Shawnee State in the fourth quarter, as the Bears nursed their nine-point lead to the final buzzer, beating the Knights 81-72.
Laken Williams led the Bears in scoring with a season-high 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting (1-of-1 from three), while converting a pair of free throws. Williams also collected five steals and dished out three assists.
Kyla Torok scored in double figures for the second consecutive game, finishing with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
Jariah Steele added 11 points, her second-highest output of the season, and grabbed three rebounds.
Jonilyah Chambers finished with nine points, six steals, five assists and two steals, while
Lauren Hawthorne added eight points, five steals, five rebounds and four assists.
The quartet of
Miyoshi Ellis,
Ra'Khyia Prince,
Emily Maynard and
Lilly-May Walker scored six points apiece.
Kentucky Christian's Bell Sparks led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line.
