Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (14-4, 6-0) picked up its fifth consecutive win Saturday, defeating Oakland City 76-72. Eight of the Bears' last 10 games have been decided by eight points or fewer.
Shawnee State, coming off a
105-102 overtime win against IU East, started strong in its return to Waller Gymnasium Saturday, leading Oakland City 42-29 at the end of the first half.
Rheyce DeBoard led all scorers in the opening half with 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting (1-of-1 from three), while connected on 3-of-3 tries from the foul line.
Jareon Mayo scored eight points and collected five rebounds in the stanza, while
Daniel Rosenber chipped in seven points.
Oakland City would open up the second half on a 36-23 run over the first 16 minutes to tie the game at 65-all with four minutes to play.
The Mighty Oaks would even take a short-lived 70-67 lead over Shawnee State with 2:36 to go in regulation.
The Bears would respond with a 9-2 run over the final two minutes of the second half to solidify their 76-72 win over Oakland City.
Jareon Mayo and
Tony Webb, Jr., who was in-and-out of the game with lower-body discomfort, led Shawnee State in scoring with 13 points apiece.
Rheyce DeBoard and
Jason Steele each scored twelve points. Steele, who only played twelve minutes and fouled out, scored 10 of his 12 total points in the second half.
Kiante Williams finished with eight points and six rebounds, while
El Sieger and
Daniel Rosenber each added seven points.
Ahmadou Aw scored four points, grabbed seven rebounds and collected three steals.
