(RV) SSU MBB Takes Overtime Thriller Over IU East, Wins 105-102

Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. -- Shawnee State (13-4, 5-0) remained the lone unbeaten team in River States Conference play Saturday, outlasting the IU East 105-102 in overtime at Lingle Court in Richmond.

Shawnee State and IU East traded several leads in the first half, but it would be the Bears holding a 31-30 advantage over the Red Wolves with just over five minutes remaining in the opening stanza.

IU East would then go on a 15-10 run over the final five minutes of the first half to take a 45-41 lead over Shawnee State into the break.

Kiante Williams paced the Bears in first-half scoring with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting (1-of-4 from three), while converting a pair of free throws.

Jareon Mayo also finished in double figures in the first half as the senior notched 10 points while shooting 4-of-6 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond-the-arc.

Shawnee State quickly tied the game in the second half, going on an 8-3 run over the first 2:45 to make it 49-all with 17:15 remaining in regulation.

The teams continued to trade leads, with Shawnee State taking a brief 91-90 advantage over IU East on a pair of El Sieger free throws with 31 seconds remaining.

Shawnee State would then get a stop defensively, which was quickly followed by an IU East foul that sent Sieger back to the free-throw line with 12 second to go.

Sieger would miss the first, but make the second, extending the Bears' lead to 92-90.

With 12 seconds to go, IU East would drive down the floor and look to score from beyond-the-arc, which led to Tobey Billups drawing a foul on Rheyce DeBoard on an attempted three-pointer, which sent Billups to the line for three shots with seven seconds left.

Billups would make the first, miss the second and drain the third, tying the game at 92-92.

With seven seconds remaining, Shawnee State got a shot off at the buzzer but missed, sending the game into overtime.

There would be five extra minutes of basketball for the fans in Richmond.

The Bears opened the overtime period on a 4-0 run, leading IU East 96-92 with 3:39 to go in the frame.

The Red Wolves would manage to cut Shawnee State's lead down to 96-95 with 2:44 to go, but Kiante Williams quickly answered with a three-pointer that put the Bears back ahead by four at 99-95.

Shawnee State was outscored 10-9 by IU East the rest of the way, but did just enough to hold on for the 105-102 conference win on the road.

Jareon Mayo led all scorers with 27 points, a season high, on 8-of-11 shooting (2-of-4 from three), while knocking down 9-of-10 tries from the foul line.

Kiante Williams scored a season-high 26 points in the win, grabbing two rebounds as well. The senior also set season highs in minutes (35), field goals made (nine), field goal attempts (15), three-pointers made (four), three-pointers attempted (nine), free throws made (four) and steals (three).

Daniel Rosenber scored 18 points and snagged eight rebounds, while El Sieger dropped 14 points and dished out seven assists.

Ahmadou Aw added 12 points on a season-high five made shots on seven attempts.
