Box Score COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Shawnee State (12-4, 3-1) got back in the win column Saturday afternoon as the Bears handed IU Columbus a 45-point loss on their own floor. Shawnee State has now won five of its last six games.
The first quarter of Saturday's River States Conference meeting between Shawnee State and IU Columbus would prove to be the most competitive of the afternoon, as the Crimson Pride trailed SSU 18-15 at the end of the frame.
The second quarter would be the beginning of a 77-35 run over the final three quarters for Shawnee State, as the Bears outpaced IU Columbus 21-7 in the period.
Miyoshi Ellis led all scorers with 11 first-half points, while
TK Catchings and
Jonilyah Chambers each finished with six points.
Shawnee State cruised in the second half, outscoring the Crimson Pride 26-10 and 30-18 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
Come the final buzzer of the fourth quarter, Shawnee State found themselves out in front of IU Columbus 95-50, which would be the game's final.
The 50 points allowed by Shawnee State are tied for the second fewest surrendered in a single game this season.
The 45-point win for the Bears is their second-largest win of the season, just behind their 47-point
81-34 win over Great Lakes Christian on Dec. 30.
Offensively for Shawnee State,
Miyoshi Ellis led all scorers with 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting (2-of-3 from three-point range) while converting on 3-of-6 free throws.
TK Catchings, in just 12 minutes of playing time, produced her second-largest offensive output of the season, scoring 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting while grabbing six rebounds.
Lilly-May Walker scored a season-high 12 points in the win, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter, grabbed three rebounds and dished out one assist.
Laken Williams and
Jonilyah Chambers scored nine points apiece, while the trio of
Ra'Khyia Prince,
Onyinyechi Sanders and
Makenzie Daubenmire each finished with seven points, respectively.
