DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. -- The women's soccer program at Shawnee State outshot the Michigan-Dearborn women's soccer program by an 11-9 margin, but the Bears fell to the Wolverines, 1-0, as an early eighth minute goal by Michigan-Dearborn's Valentina Ferran allowed the home squad to hold the lead in a nonconference contest that was held in Dearborn Heights, Mich.
In the opening half of play, Shawnee State doubled Michigan-Dearborn's shot total by an 8-4 count. The Bears, who put four shots on goal in the half, were led by
Lucie Ashkettle who put three of her four shots on frame in the contest.
Abby Kennedy, who got a shot off in the 41st minute, also placed a shot on goal.
Shawnee State was picked up by reserves
Haynna Addy and
Lexi Conkel in the second half of competition, but the Bears weren't able to mount a consistent charge at the net in the second half, being held to three shots in all.
The Bears (1-4-1) will conclude their Michigan swing Saturday afternoon when Shawnee State takes on Rochester Christian (2-2) at 1 p.m. at the Michigan Stars Soccer Complex in Washington, Mich.
