Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

SSU WSOC drops 1-0 decision to Rochester Christian

WASHINGTON, Mich. -- The women's soccer program at Shawnee State got a terrific effort from starting goalkeeper Harlee Brand against Rochester Christian (Mich.) as the product of nearby North Adams made eight saves, but the Bears ultimately dropped a 1-0 decision to the Warriors Saturday afternoon at the Michigan Stars Soccer Complex in Washington, Mich.

Despite being down a starter due to injury and outshot by a 9-2 margin in the opening half, and a 17-9 shot margin in the contest as a whole, Shawnee State entered the half against Rochester Christian at a scoreless tie thanks to Brand and a stingy backline effort led by Abby Kennedy, Jelena Krpan and Isabelle Riddle, who each have played every minute in each of Shawnee State's seven matches in 2025, as well as Elizabeth Brown, Ariane Davis and the defensive midfield.

Over the first 14 minutes of the match alone, Brand made four of her eight stops -- and made two more saves over the next 14 minutes to help slow Rochester Christian's momentum as the Bears and Warriors exited the first 45 minutes the same way the match began.

Rochester Christian was able to grab the lead in the 51st minute on the first goal of the season from the Warriors' Jenna Schodowski, but Shawnee State responded by posting seven shots over the game's next 38 minutes, putting pressure on the Warriors' defense with the help of Brown, Kennedy and Annie Coriell as well as reserve players Genesis Guereca, Sabina Morera Mas and Autumn Culp. However, the Bears weren't able to punch the equalizing goal in, resulting in the 1-0 defeat.

Shawnee State will get a week off of game action before returning to play Saturday, Sept. 20 in what will be a nonconference contest at Grace (Ind.). The match begins at 1 p.m. at 1st Source Bank Field in Winona Lake, Ind.
