SSU Men's Soccer team started their River States Conference season off with a visit from the rival Redstorms from the University of Rio Grande. After a very tough battle, the Bears fell 2-1 to the ninth-ranked Redstorm.
The first half would start with an early shot from Rio Grande's Altan Sayar that was saved by Eric Green. Shortly after, Green was unable to save the second shot from Sayar who found the back of the net giving Rio the lead. After two more saves by Green, the Redstroms found their second goal by Cam Orellana in the 25th minute. Going into the half, Shawnee found themselves down two goals to none.
SSU came out in the second half with the intention of scoring and Thivassen Naiker, answered the Bears in the 51st minute, as he took a shot that snuck into the top right of the corner. The rest of the game would be a battle between both teams trying to score but the game ended with no more goals. The Bears would have only two shots during the game, while the Redstroms had eleven shots. The game ended 2-1 for the Redstorms.
The Bears will be back in action next Thursday against Ohio Christian in the Shawnee Turf. The game starts at 8 PM.
