Bears Tie with Crimson Pride

The Shawnee State men's soccer team traveled to face Indiana University Purdue University Columbus Crimson Pride on Saturday afternoon. In a tough game, the Bears would tie 2-2, this being the second draw of their season.

For the first half, the Bears came out looking to control the game, it was early in the game when the Bears scored the first goal of the match. In the seventh minute, Clement Akanyah headed the ball into the back of the net after Nikos Pontikis put a cross in the box. The rest of the first half was a battle back and forth with both teams trying to find the back of the net. Shawnee State would have two saves by Kai Domagala while IUPUC had five saves by Jacob Kasarda.

Starting the second half, the Crimson Pride scored their first goal of the game in the 47th minute. After 14 minutes, IUPUC found their way to the goal and took the lead of the game with a 2-1 score. SSU did not waste any time and just seconds after getting scored on, Fernando De Ornelas left the perfect ball for Dominic Batey to score the equalizer for the Bears and this was Batey's first goal of the season. Shawnee State could not find the back of the net for the remainder of the game and tied IUPUC 2-2.

The Shawnee State men's soccer team will travel to Indiana to face the Red Wolves of Indiana East University on Thursday. The game starts at 7:30 PM.
