Friday afternoon Shawnee State welcomed the University of Pikeville in the good old fashion Battle of Route 23. SSU would come out victorious as they would win 16-6, completing the 10-run mercy rule after eight innings
The Bears would have a rough start as Pikeville would score four runs in the first inning, but Shawnee was not out of it just yet. SSUs starter Kyle Wisniewski would battle back, throwing seven innings only giving up one earned run, two walks, and six strikeouts. Offensively, the Bears of Shawnee State were hotter than hot. All the fun started in the bottom of the third inning as the Bears would tie the game by scoring four runs, three of which came from Jacob Kline who hit a three-run blast to left-center field. Fast forward to the next inning, Kline would come back up to the plate and the result was the same this time it was hit down the left-field line. SSU in the middle three frames of today's game would score nine runs and could not be stopped, sealing the 16-6 victory for Shawnee State.
- Every batter for the Bears tonight had at least one hit
- Kline 2-2 with 2 HRs, 6 RBIs, and 3 Walks
- Howie Rodriguez 4-5 with HR and 3 RBIs
The Bears will try to win the series and possibly sweep UPike tomorrow afternoon, as the first pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
