Game Recap: Baseball |

Bears Power Past UPIKE

Saturday afternoon was full of baseball for Shawnee State as they looked to not only win the series but sweep a Mid-South team for only the second time in the last four years. SSU would do just that as they would take game one 8-5 and game two 9-4 from UPike.

Game 1

Shawnee would send Jacob Gleason to the mound to face the Bears of the University of Pikeville. Gleason would deal, going out and having a solid start. SSU offensively would stay hot, as they were in game one. It started with Howie Rodriguez hitting a no-doubt home run to left field. George Duran would follow suit in the third inning hitting a two-run bomb to center field putting the Bears up 3-1 going into the second half of the game. Shawnee would get into the UPike's bullpen and score five more in the sixth inning, sealing the game 8-5.

  • Eight Bears have at least one hit
  • Kyle Boggs 2-3 with 1 RBI

Game 2

Early in this game looked like it was going to be a pitching duel as Michael VanZandt would get the start for Shawnee. UPike would get to VanZandt in the third inning as they would put two runs on the board, but Shawnee answered back quickly in the bottom half of the inning. Jacob Heighton would start the scoring fun by hitting a sac fly and scoring Duran. Jacob Kline would come up and hit his fourth home run on the weekend this time scoring two. Shawnee would hold off any sort of momentum from Pikeville while also scoring six more runs. Two of those runs came from Tanner Lund who in his return from injury, would have an exciting day going a perfect 3-3 at the plate, helping the Bears win 9-4 and sweep the conference weekend.

  • Eight Bears have at least one hit
  • Noah Sniadach 2-4 with 1 HR and 2 RBIs

The Bears will be back in action Tuesday, April 5, as they take on Miami-Hamilton at Branch Rickey Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 PM.
