Women's Soccer Fall to Asbury 1-0 on Late Goal

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State women's soccer dropped their third straight match on Tuesday night, falling to Asbury (Ky.) 1-0 at Shawnee Turf.

Neither team would score in an even first half. Asbury's best chance would come off a corner in the 23rd minute, when Suzie Terrazas would get a shot saved by Michaela Garner (SR/Heath, Ohio). SSU would get a chance late in the half, with Charity Collins (JR/Ashland, Kentucky) shooting but having her shot saved by Carley Pyles, ensuring a 0-0 tie at halftime.

Asbury would score the only goal of the match with 15 minutes to go. A turnover in the midfield would see the Eagles on the break toward Michaela Garner's goal. Taylor Skolik would get a shot off in the box, which Garner would save; however, the rebound would roll to Courtney Howe, who would chip a finish into the net over a diving Garner to give Asbury the 1-0 lead in the 77th minute. The Eagles would make the lead stand through the final 15 minutes, stifling Shawnee State's attack late.

The loss drops SSU to 2-5-1 on the season. Asbury improves to 3-5-0. The Eagles now lead the all-time series 4-1-0 on the Bears.
