Women's Soccer beat Pikeville 5-0 for Homecoming

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State women's soccer snapped a three-match losing streak on Saturday afternoon, routing Pikeville 5-0 for Homecoming.

SSU's first goal would come off a turnover in the 16th minute. Charity Collins (JR/Ashland, Kentucky) would get on an errant pass and fire home from around 25 yards, putting Shawnee State up 1-0. The Bears would get their second goal late in the first half in the 45th minute, when Christa Harris (FR/Carlisle, Ohio) would tap home from a Destiny Chester (JR/Canal Winchester, Ohio) cross, giving SSU a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Shawnee State would continue the onslaught in the second half. Alison Cook (SR/Liberty Township, Ohio) would score in the 55th minute, scoring off a Sierra Drake (FR/Blanchester, Ohio) assist. Madison Patrick (SO/Carlisle, Ohio) would then hit a sublime finish from 24 yards out in the 58th minute to put Shawnee State up 4-0. Cook would get her second goal of the match in the 79th minute, scoring off a Collins pass to give SSU the 5-0 final score.

The win improves Shawnee State to 3-5-1 on the season, and gets the Bears off to a 1-0-0 start in the Mid-South Conference. Pikeville falls to 2-9-0 and to 0-1-0 in the conference. Shawnee State is now 11-0-1 in the all-time series. SSU is now 2-0-0 at Homecoming after last season's 1-0 double overtime win over Bob Jones (S.C.).

Shawnee State women's soccer return to action on Tuesday, October 2 when they travel to Campbellsville for their first road match of the Mid-South Conference schedule. Kickoff is set for 6:00pm.
