Columbia, Ky. – Shawnee State women's soccer fell in their regular season finale on Friday night, losing to No. 14 Lindsey Wilson 5-0.
The Blue Raiders took the lead in the 34th minute despite a stout SSU defense. Sina Cavelti received a pass from Emelie Liljered and finished past SSU keeper Michaela Garner (SR/Hebron, Ohio), putting Lindsey Wilson up 1-0. Shawnee State would hold the lead there until halftime.
Lindsey Wilson would put the match away with four quick goals in the middle of the second half. Sanna Svensson scored an unassisted goal in the 51st minute for a 2-0 lead, followed shortly by Liljered in the 53rd minute for 3-0. Cavelti would complete her brace in the 55th minute to push the Lindsey Wilson lead to 4-0, and Emma Lindell would score in the 65th minute for a 5-0 lead. Shawnee State would fight hard but not find a way through the Blue Raider defense, falling to the flurry of goals.
The loss drops Shawnee State to 5-10-1, and to 2-5-0 in the Mid-South Conference. Lindsey Wilson improves to 7-3-2, and to 5-0-1 in the league. Lindsey Wilson could clinch the Mid-South Conference regular season championship with a win against Life on Saturday.
Shawnee State women's soccer will face Cumberland (Tenn.) in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament. Game time will be announced early next week.
