Columbia, Ky. – Shawnee State men's soccer fought hard but fell in their regular season finale on Friday night, getting edged by No. 8 Lindsey Wilson 4-2.
The Blue Raiders would strike first to take an early lead. Jan Engels would hit a cross into the box from the right side, finding Andrew Revanales. The Lindsey Wilson attacker would finish across goal to put Lindsey Wilson up 1-0 in the 20th minute.
Shawnee State would equalize right before halftime. Aaron Keyser (JR/Portsmouth, Ohio) would play a ball up to Kevin deLange (FR/Genemuiden, Netherlands), who would find himself in on goal. deLange would coolly finish passed William Diaz to tie the match up at 1-1 going to halftime.
Two quick Lindsey Wilson goals would put the Blue Raiders up by two goals. Engels would get a goal of his own, finishing off a through ball from Stephane Dasse for a 2-1 lead. Revanales then finished off a brace with a one-touch goal, putting Lindsey Wilson up 3-1 in the 54th minute.
SSU would quickly respond to get back into the match. deLange would get his second goal of the game, scoring a free kick to cut the lead to 3-2. However, Lindsey Wilson would put the match away through Rainer de Jesus, who would finish past Kade Tomlinson (FR/Waxahachie, Texas) to seal the match for Lindsey Wilson in a 4-2 win.
The loss drops Shawnee State to 7-11-0 on the season, and to 0-7-0 in the Mid-South Conference. Lindsey Wilson improves to 11-2-1, and to 5-1-0 in the league.
Shawnee State men's soccer takes on Cumberland (Tenn.) in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament. Kickoff time will be announced early next week.
