Bowling Green, Ky. – Kevin deLange (FR/Genemuiden, Netherlands) was named Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year at Thursday night's Mid-South Conference Awards Banquet.
deLange was named Freshman of the Year after an outstanding breakout campaign, helping SSU to a five-win improvement over 2017. deLange played in all 18 games, starting 17, and scored 14 goals and grabbed five assists, for a total of 33 points. deLange was also named second team All-Mid-South Conference as part of the award.
deLange is tied with Joseph Webster for the second-most goals in a single season in program history, and his 33 points is tied with Webster for third in a season. deLange was also named Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, earning the award on September 17.
In addition to deLange's award, SSU had seven players named Mid-South Conference All-Academic. Alek Blevins (SO/South Webster, Ohio), Carrick Duffey (SO/Columbus, Ohio), Chris Jones (JR/Xenia, Ohio), Aaron Keyser (JR/Portsmouth, Ohio), Aaron Mazurkiewicz (SR/Vincent, Ohio), Mitchell Patchett (SO/Dublin, Ohio) and Caleb Roof (SR/Wheelersburg, Ohio) all earned the Mid-South's academic award. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be in their third semester at an institution of higher education, and must have maintained a 3.25 cumulative GPA.
Shawnee State men's soccer play Cumberland (Tenn.) at 11:00am on Friday, November 2 in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament in Campbellsville, Kentucky. The quarterfinals of the MSC Tournament were moved to Campbellsville from Bowling Green High School due to inclement weather in the Bowling Green area.
