Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer cruises past Rochester 3-0

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State women's soccer used a big second half to extend their unbeaten run to start the season to three games, defeating Rochester 3-0.

The first half was played evenly as Shawnee State and Rochester played to a 0-0 halftime draw. SSU's best chance of the first half came in the 30th minute when Destiny Chester (SO/Canal Winchester, Ohio) got sight of goal, only for her shot to be blocked by Brenna Bianchi.

SSU would finally get a breakthrough goal in the second half. A promising attack led to a corner in the 69th minute. Olivia Ball (SO/Greenup, Kentucky)'s delivery perfectly met the head of Charity Collins (SO/Ashland, Kentucky), who headed home from six yards to give Shawnee State a 1-0 lead.

Shawnee State doubled their advantage in the 77th minute. A clearance by Adrianna Johnson (JR/Clarksville, Ohio) found Maddie Woodard (SR/Camden, Ohio) bursting through the Rochester back line. Woodard then ran with the ball at her feet to the right side of the goalkeeper's box before slotting past Cali Clemens to get SSU's second.

The Bears would add a third just over a minute later. Ball was again involved, slotting a pass in to the awaiting feet of Chester, who finished coolly to seal the win for the Bears.

The win extends Shawnee State's unbeaten run to start the year to three games, with the Bears now sitting at 2-0-1. Rochester falls to 1-3-0.

Shawnee State are back in action on Tuesday evening when they take on Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio). Kickoff is set for 5:00pm.
