Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State women's soccer rallied from a 3-1 second half deficit to defeat Ohio Christian in overtime 4-3.
The Bears would strike first, taking an early lead. Madison Patrick (FR/Carlisle, Ohio) would find the back of the net in the fifth minute to give SSU a 1-0 lead over Ohio Christian. However, the Trailblazers would respond, with Mylie Lafountaine finishing off a pass from Kaylah Peele to level the score 1-1.
The second half would see Ohio Christian score two goals to take a 3-1 lead. Brooke Wilhite would score in the 62nd minute to get OCU's second, followed by Joy Pluta in the 76th minute to apparently seal it for the home side.
Shawnee State would then roar back to tie the score. Jenny Campbell (SR/Chillicothe, Ohio) would continue her scintillating form, scoring in the 78th minute to pull the Bears back within one. Maddie Woodard (SR/Camden, Ohio) would then get the equalizer in the 82nd minute to level the score, sending the game to overtime.
Shawnee State would finish the game off in the first overtime. Maddie Woodard would grab a second goal to end the game in the 92nd minute, sending Shawnee State to their fourth straight victory.
The win moves Shawnee State to 6-1-1 on the season. Ohio Christian falls to 2-3-0. The win moves Shawnee State to 2-0-1 in overtime this season.
Shawnee State will begin Mid-South Conference play on Tuesday, September 26 when they play Lindsey Wilson at Shawnee Turf. Kickoff is set for 5:00pm.
