Softball earns four All-Conference awards at MSC Banquet

Bowling Green, Ky. – Shawnee State softball's Marisa Brown (SO/Liberty Township, Ohio) and Ashtyn Saunders (FR/Lancaster, Ohio) were named First Team All-Mid-South Conference at the MSC Softball Banquet on Thursday night, with Kayla Koch (JR/Lucasville, Ohio) and Brooke Blevins (FR/Frankfort, Ohio) being named to the Second Team.

Brown is a sophomore from Liberty Township, Ohio, and won the First Team designated player slot. Brown is hitting .362 on the year, getting 50 hits so far with four homers, 10 doubles and 49 RBIs. Brown is slugging .536 and has an on-base percentage of .418. Brown leads in the Mid-South in RBIs

Saunders was named a First Team All-MSC infielder. The freshman from Lancaster, Ohio has led off for Shawnee State all season and is hitting .454 with a .500 on-base percentage and 46 runs scored. Saunders leads the Bears with 69 hits and has stolen 19 bases, also a team high. Saunders is second in the league in batting average, hits and runs scored and ranks third in stolen bases and fourth in on-base percentage.

Kayla Koch was named a Second Team All-MSC infielder. The junior from Lucasville, Ohio transferred to Shawnee State from Bowling Green prior to this season and has given the Bears needed pop in the lineup. Koch is batting .343 on the year with a team-high seven home runs, 11 doubles, 47 total hits, a slugging percentage of .577 and on-base percentage of .399. Koch is sixth in the league in slugging percentage and ninth in both doubles and home runs.

Brooke Blevins was named one of the three Second Team All-MSC pitchers. The freshman from Frankfort, Ohio went 12-11 on the season, throwing 143.1 innings. Blevins has a 3.32 ERA, has struck out 80 batters, and has three shutouts on the season. Blevins was second in the league in innings pitched, fourth in strikeouts, and ninth in ERA.

In addition to the four All-Conference performers, Shawnee State had one player added to their All-Academic selections. Victoria Bevington (FR/London, Ohio) met the qualifications for earning the award, having enough credits to be a sophomore academically at Shawnee State and maintaining a 3.25 GPA or higher.

"I am very proud of all of our award winners for this season," said SSU head coach Steve Whittaker. "The fact that we have multiple All-Conference award winners shows how much we have improved this season, and our youth should continue to improve as we look to continue to compete in the Mid-South Conference."

Shawnee State softball begins the Mid-South Conference Tournament at 12:00pm Eastern Time on Friday, April 28th against Pikeville (Ky.).
