Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer lost on Tuesday afternoon, falling to Mount Vernon Nazarene 5-1.
The Cougars scored the lone goal in the first half. Tim Kasparek fired home a penalty kick after being fouled in the box, giving MVNU a 1-0 lead over the Bears. SSU had several chances to equalize before half but were unable to find the net.
Mount Vernon would score early in the second half, with Joshua Alexander scoring in the 48th minute. Connor Davis would add a goal for the Cougars in the 55th minute. The Bears were able to pull a goal back in the 67th minute, when Bryce Romanello headed in his fourth goal of the season off of a Kazuto Sugawara corner.
Unfortunately, Shawnee State would concede just four minutes later, when Dennis Taylor would score in the 71st minute to give Mount Vernon Nazarene their three goal lead back. Taylor would add a second goal in the 86th minute to complete the scoring.
With the loss, SSU drops to 1-5 to start the season. Mount Vernon Nazarene improves to 7-1-1.
The Bears are next in action on Saturday, September 24th when they travel to Tennessee to take on Mid-South Conference foe Cumberlands University. Kickoff is set for 3:00pm.
